Top Tips

Instead of booking an overpriced boat tour, sail passed the Statue of Liberty on the free ferry to Staten Island

Visit Times Square around 6am to get the perfect photo without the crowds

Pre-book viewing points, tours and shows for cheaper prices

Set half a day of your trip aside so you can wonder Central Park

Bring money specifically for the outlets as it is very easy to overspend on food

If you're visiting on a budget make sure breakfast is included in your hotel booking

Check ESTA/VISA regulations before you book and ensure you apply for it at least a month before you travel

Tipping culture is very different to Europe so be prepared for the open expectation that you will tip everyone

Good to know

Times Square is incredible, but it is also full of street sellers who struggle to take no for an answer.

EVERYTHING is more expensive than you think (apart from the subway).

Hotel/City tax is a lot more expensive than European cities, check if it is included in your booking. If not contact the hotel and ask the price as we stayed for 4 nights and the tax was $140+.

Visit the One World Observatory in the evening and the Empire State Building in the morning as the Empire State has red heat lamps at night, therefore impacting your photos.

English banter is very very different to American humour

Customs is very strict compared to Europe so ensure you know the name of your hotel and your flight and check-in details as you may be asked.

The subway is a lot cheaper than yellow taxis but also more confusing
